Afropollis operculatus operculatus
This subspecies is distinguished by possessing large-sized reticulum at the distal pole (apertural pole) as well as at the proximal pole. Lumina near the equator slightly larger than lumina surrounding the operculum. Lumina of the operculum, although as coarse as those of the grain surface, sometimes appear narrower due to sinuosity and irregularity of muri. Nexine usually dark to invisible under light microscopy, surface rough to minutely verrucate under SEM, diameter intermediate between the zonasulculus and the whole grain.
