Tityus apozonalli was named by Riquelme et al. (2015). Its type specimen is BL.MACH.18, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Mexican amber, Simojovel, Guadalupe Victoria (MACH collection), which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Mexico.
