Uintacrinus was named by Grinnell (1876) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant-u]. Its type is Uintacrinus socialis. It is the type genus of Uintacrinidae, Uintacrinoidea.
It was assigned to Uintacrinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Uintacrinidae by Clark and Twitchell (1915), Rasmussen (1961) and Hess and Messing (2011).
