Taxonomy
Ptinus (Gynopterus) scalovicus was named by Alekseev (2014). Its type specimen is Hoffeins 883-2, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Hoffeins/Deutsches Entomologische Institut collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.

It was recombined as Ptinus scalovicus by Bukejs and Alekseev (2015).
