Polypodiaceoisporites fossulatus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: Río Negro river, near Uribe. PaleoDB number: 29159.
Paratypes: UFP 43, 6.7 x 112; UFP 9, 10.5 x 107.2; UFP 84, 5.3 x 9.7; UFP 48, 5.5 x 79.1.
Dimension in equatorial view.]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 87, 20.7 x 88.5, a microspore.
