Bacutriporites echinatus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: Piñalerita Creek near Sabanalarga.

]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 41, 21.9 X 88.9, a microspore (Pollen grain). Its type locality is Pinalerita UFP 41, Llanos foothills, Colombia, which is in an Eocene fluvial-deltaic sandstone/mudstone in the Areniscas de el Limbo Formation of Colombia.
