Taxonomy
Gryllus (Tettigonia) viridissimus was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant.

It was recombined as Gryllus viridissimus by Linnaeus (1761) and Scopoli (1763); it was recombined as Locusta viridissima by Fabricius (1775); it was recombined as Tettigonia viridissima by Civet (1976), Garai (2010) and Mugleston et al. (2018).
