Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
E. S. Vrba et al. 2015A medium-sized reduncine of smaller size on most measurements than the other species of Sivacobus and about the size of extant kobs; horncores basally uncompressed, with numerous longitudinal grooves and ridges all around the base, with a slightly concave-forward shape at the very base in lateral view, which is unique among adult males of all living Kobus and not evident in other Sivacobus specimens in which this area is preserved, and as seen typically in Redunca, with an additional basal lateral-bending component in anterior view; strong tempo- ral ridges in mature males raised and flaring outward anteriorly, with anterior hollows medially to the ridges; strong swelling of the metopic suture, anteriorly at least up to the level of the supraorbital foramina, and culminating posteriorly in a markedly raised area at, and especially just anterior to, bregma; parietal with local raising posterior to bregma; occipital surface facing mostly backwards, with a strong median spine and flanking hol- lows, without a smoothly rounded dorsal profile; basioccipital long, with prominent anterior tuberosities splayed outwards and also prominent in a ventral direction, lacking marked development of longitudinal ridges between anterior and posterior tuberosities, strongly constricted medially, a combination that resembles Redunca more than Kobus.
