Retitrescolpites peculiaris was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: PiƱalerita Creek near Sabanalarga. PaleoDB number 28436.
Paratypes: UFP 9, 17 x 101.6; UFP 9, 17 x 101.6.]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 9, 17 x 101.6, a microspore (pollen grain).
