Aulacoscelis was named by Duponchel and Chevrolat (1842). It is extant. It is the type genus of Aulacoscelites.
It was assigned to Chrysomelinae by Duponchel and Chevrolat (1842); and to Aulacoscelidinae by Bouchard et al. (2011), Haddad et al. (2018), Legalov (2021).
