Taxonomy
Rhynchites dionysus was named by Heer (1864). It is an impression. Its type locality is Oeningen (Zurich collection), which is in a Sarmatian crater lake limestone in the Upper Freshwater-Molasse Formation of Germany.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Legalov (2015); it was recombined as Omphalapion dionysus by Poinar and Legalov (2015).
