Venus gnidia was named by Broderip and Sowerby I (1829). It is extant.

It was recombined as Chione (Gnidiella) gnidia by Parker (1949); it was recombined as Chione gnidia by Chace and Emerson (1959); it was recombined as Chione (Chionopsis) gnidia by Keen (1971); it was recombined as Chionopsis gnidia by Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012), Hendy (2021).
