Tophoderes depontanus was named by Von Heyden (1859). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Rott (Von Dechen Bonn coll.), which is in a MP 30 lacustrine - large lignite in Germany.
It was recombined as Syntophoderes depontanus by Legalov (2015).
