Taxonomy
Pterodon leptognathus was named by Osborn (1909). Its type specimen is AMNH 13263, a mandible (Lower jaw), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry A (Jebel Qatrani Formation), which is in a Rupelian fluvial sandstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt.
It was recombined as Akhnatenavus leptognathus by Holroyd (1999), Solé et al. (2014) and Borths et al. (2016).
