Taxonomy
Vallehermosomys merlinae was named by Vucetich et al. (2010). Its type specimen is MPEF-PV 7954, a tooth (right M3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is La Cantera, which is in a Rupelian terrestrial horizon in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina.
