Hypsosteiromys axiculus
Taxonomy
Steiromys axiculus was named by Ameghino (1902). Its type specimen is MACN A 52-171, a mandible (fragment of right ramus with root of i, m1-3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gran Barranca - southern cliff of lake Colhué Huapí, which is in a Colhuehuapian terrestrial horizon in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina.
It was recombined as Hypsosteiromys axiculus by Patterson (1958) and Vucetich et al. (2010).
