Taxonomy
Porzana severnsi was named by Olson and James (1991). Its type specimen is USNM 378344-378363, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Auwahi Cave, which is in a Holocene cave horizon in Hawaii.
