Taxonomy
Chubutomys simpsoni was named by Wood and Patterson (1959). Its type specimen is AMNH 29557, a mandible (fragment of left ramus with m2-3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cabeza Blanca, which is in a Deseadan terrestrial shale/claystone in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Chubutomys.
