Taxonomy
Palaeoemys occitana was named by Hervet (2003). Its type specimen is MNHN SPP 18, a partial skeleton (partial shell), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Saint-Papoul, which is in a Ypresian terrestrial horizon in the Saint-Papoul Formation of France.
