Passalopalpus was named by Boucher and Bai (2016). Its type is Passalopalpus cheni. It is the type genus of Passalopalpidae.

It was assigned to Passalopalpidae by Boucher and Bai (2016), Li et al. (2022), Allsopp and Schoolmeesters (2026).
