Teridontus was named by Miller (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Fran-u O Trem-u Sepkoski's reference number: 800].

It was assigned to Protopanderodontidae by Sweet (1988); to Conodontophorida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Oneotodontidae by Pyle and Barnes (2002).
