Taxonomy
Waslamys attiai was named by Sallam et al. (2009). Its type specimen is CGM 83690, a maxilla, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Birket Qarun 2, which is in a Priabonian channel sandstone in the Birket Qarun Formation of Egypt.
It was recombined as Protophiomys attiai by Coster et al. (2012).
