Taxonomy
Stromatopora was named by Goldfuss (1826) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u D Fame-u]. It is the type genus of Stromatoporidae.

It was assigned to Stromatoporidae by Stearn (1996), Stearn et al. (1999); and to Stromatoporoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
