Macrocallista ariakensis was named by Nagao (1928). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mirokudake, which is in an Eocene marine horizon in Japan.
It was recombined as Callista (Microcallista) ariakensis by Matsubara and Ugai (2006).
