Taraschelon gigas
Taxonomy
Testudo gigas was named by Bravard (1844). Its type specimen is MNHN.F LIM 777, a partial skeleton (carapace and plastron), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bournoncle-Saint-Pierre, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial horizon in France.
It was recombined as Taraschelon gigas by Pérez-García (2016); it was recombined as Cheirogaster gigas by Broin (1977), Vlachos and Rabi (2018).
