Taxonomy
Plesiosminthus barsboldi was named by Daxner-Höck and Wu (2003). Its type specimen is NHMW2001z 0066/0002/1, a maxilla, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Unkheltseg, UNCH-A/3, which is in a Miocene terrestrial siltstone/claystone in the Loh Formation of Mongolia.
