Paraceratherium lepidum

Taxonomy

Paraceratherium lipidus was named by Xu and Wang (1978). Its type specimen is TP 9401, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 1 km west of Feiyue Railway station, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial horizon in the Taoshuyuanzi Formation of China.

It was corrected as Paraceratherium lepidum by Qiu and Wang (2007).

Sister species lacking formal opinion data

P. albigense, P. prohorovi, P. transouralicum

Synonyms

Paraceratherium zhajremensis was named by Bayshashov (1988).

It was synonymized subjectively with Paraceratherium lepidum by Qiu and Wang (2007).
