Lygistorrhina caribbiana was named by Grund (2012). Its type specimen is SMNS Do-3187-W, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (SMNS coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
