Ischaliinae was named by Blair (1920). It is extant. Its type is Ischalia.

It was reranked as the subfamily Ischaliidae by Alekseev and Telnov (2016), Cai et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Pyrochroidae by Blair (1920); to Anthicidae by Lawrence and Newton (1995); to Scraptiidae by Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Tenebrionoidea by Alekseev and Telnov (2016), Cai et al. (2022).
