Taxonomy
Palaeoaplysina was named by Krotov (1888) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-l P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 175,666]. Its type is Palaeoaplysina laminaeformis.

It was assigned to Palaeoaplysinidae by Chuvashov (1973); to Axinellida by Sepkoski (2002); to Codiaceae by Kiessling (2004); to Palaoaplysinaceae by Anderson and Beauchamp (2014); and to Hydrozoa by Ponomarenko et al. (2014).
