Taxonomy
Albula was named by Gronow (1763) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant R Sepkoski's reference number: 915 also used by Scopoli 1777]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Albulidae.

It was assigned to Anguilliformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Albulidae by Woodward (1901), Casier (1946), Casier (1966), Estes (1969), Applegate (1970), Forey (1973), Thurmond and Jones (1981), Case and Schwimmer (1988), Nolf and Dockery (1990), Weems (1998), Stringer (1998), Weems (1999), Maisch et al. (2016), Schwarzhans (2019); and to Albulinae by Ebersole et al. (2019), Cicimurri et al. (2022).
