Taxonomy
Terebratula sowerbyana was named by Nyst (1843). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized objectively with Terebratula variabilis by Muir-Wood (1938); it was recombined as Pliothyrina sowerbyana by Cooper (1983), García Ramos (2006) and Dulai (2016).
