Terebratula grandis was named by Blumenbach (1803). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pliothyrina grandis by Cooper (1983), Popiel-Barczyk and Barczyk (1990), Dulai and von der Hocht (2020) and Bitner and Müller (2022).
