Taxonomy
Holcoptera solitensis was named by Kelly et al. (2017). Its type specimen is VMNH 49735/6, an elytra, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Solite Quarry, Cycle 1 (VMNH collection), which is in a Norian lacustrine - small shale in the Cow Branch Formation of North Carolina.
