Dicranogmus bartonensis was named by Fletcher (1950). Its type specimen is F.42932, Australian Museum, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Trochurus bartonensis by Thomas and Holloway (1988).
