It was assigned to Eocheloniinae by Weems (1988); to Chelonioidea by Lapparent de Broin and Werner (1998); to Chelonia by Sepkoski (2002); to Pancheloniidae by Weems (2014); to Cheloniini by Karl and Tichy (2019); and to Cheloniidae by Tong and Hirayama (2002), Danilov et al. (2014), Zvonok et al. (2023).
