Taxonomy
Tringa hoffmanni was named by Gervais (1852). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Plátrières de Pantin, which is in an Eocene terrestrial horizon in France.
It was recombined as Palaeortyx hoffmanni by Lambrecht (1933); it was recombined as Eortyx hoffmanni by Brodkorb (1967); it was recombined as Ludiortyx hoffmanni by Brunet (1970), Olson (1977), Mlikovsky (2002).
