Amplectister tenax was named by Caterino and Maddison (2018). Its type specimen is OSAC_002900057, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Burmese amber (OSAC collection), which is in a Cenomanian terrestrial amber in Myanmar.
