Mionetta was named by Livezey and Martin (1988).

It was assigned to Dendrocheninae by Livezey and Martin (1988); to Oxyurinae by Worthy and Lee (2008), Mourer-Chauviré (2008), Zelenkov (2012); and to Anatidae by Mourer-Chauviré et al. (2004), Zelenkov (2017), Zelenkov (2024).
