Elliptocephala asaphoides

Taxonomy
Elliptocephala asaphoides was named by Emmons (1844) [Lectotype designated by Palmer and Repina (1993).]. Its type specimen is USNM 18350a and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Elliptocephala.

It was recombined as Olenus asaphoides by Hall (1847) and Fitch (1849); it was recombined as Paradoxides asaphoides by Barrande (1861); it was recombined as Olenellus (Olenus) asaphoides by Ford (1871); it was recombined as Olenellus (Elliptocephalus) asaphoides by Ford (1877); it was recombined as Olenellus asaphoides by Ford (1878), Ford (1881), Walcott (1884), Walcott (1886), Holm (1887), Lesley (1889), Matthew (1891), Bernard (1894) and Lindström (1901); it was recombined as Ebenezeria asaphoides by Marcou (1888); it was recombined as Elliptocephalus asaphoides by Marcou (1888); it was recombined as Olenellus (Mesonacis) asaphoides by Walcott (1890), Walcott (1891), Beecher (1895) and Clarke and Ruedemann (1903); it was recombined as Mesonacis (Olenellus) asaphoides by Peach (1894); it was recombined as Georgiellus asaphoides by Moberg (1899); it was recombined as Olenellus (Georgiellus) asaphoides by Pompeckj (1901).
