Taxonomy
Katifelis nightingalei was named by Adrian et al. (2018) [zoobank.org/2B768C24-A422-4DAE-89B5-2C4E6583EFF5]. Its type specimen is KNM-WK17133, a mandible (left mandible w p4-m1), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kalodirr, west of Lake Turkana, which is in a Burdigalian channel horizon in the Lothidok Formation of Kenya. It is the type species of Katifelis.
