Taxonomy
Anas carolinensis was named by Gmelin (1789). It is extant.

It was recombined as Nettion carolinense by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1931), Wetmore (1940), Miller and DeMay (1942); it was recombined as Anas crecca carolinensis by Clements et al. (2017).
