Lutraeximia umbra

Taxonomy
Lutraeximia umbra was named by Cherin et al. (2016). Its type specimen is SBAU 337654, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pantalla, which is in a Pleistocene fluvial claystone in Italy. It is the type species of Lutraeximia.

M. Cherin et al. 2016 A large-sized species of Lutraeximia (i.e., cranium size comparable to that of the living African clawless otter Aonyx capensis; Fig. 3a), with P1 located at the distal margin of the canine; P2 relatively small, laterally flattened, with paracone positioned mesially; concurrent presence of broad P4 with expanded and squared talon and smaller bean-shaped M1, without mesial expansion of the mesial portion of the talon.
