It was assigned to Squalodontidae by Siryk and Dubrovo (1970), Dubrovo (1971), Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997); to Cetacea by Sepkoski (2002); to Odontoceti by Fordyce (1994), Geisler and Sanders (2003); to Odontoceti by Tanaka and Fordyce (2014); and to Platanistoidea by Fordyce and de Muizon (2001), Ryabtseva and Tarasenko (2024).
