Taxonomy
Anas strepera was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. It is the type species of Chaulelasmus.

It was recombined as Chaulelasmus streperus by Hay (1930), Miller and DeMay (1942); it was recombined as Chaulelasmus strepera by Wetmore (1940); it was recombined as Mareca strepera by Clements et al. (2017), Michailidis et al. (2018).
