Taxonomy
Macrocallista densa was named by Moody (1916). Its type specimen is UCMP 11086, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP 3030, Fourth and Hill Streets, Los Angeles, which is in a Piacenzian marine claystone in the Fernando Formation of California.
