Taxonomy
Rallus tabuensis was named by Gmelin (1789). It is extant.

It was recombined as Porzana tabuensis by Steadman (1987), Balouet and Olson (1989), Steadman (1991), Steadman and Pahlavan (1992), Steadman (1993), Steadman et al. (1999), Worthy et al. (2015); it was recombined as Zapornia tabuensis by del Hoyo et al. (2014), Clements et al. (2017).
