Psittacula was named by Cuvier (1800). It is extant. It is the type genus of Psittaculidae, Psittaculini.
It was assigned to Psittaculini by del Hoyo et al. (2014), Podsiadlowski et al. (2017); and to Psittaculidae by Clements et al. (2017).
