Discussion
The specific name is derived from antiquorum (Latin of old times), as this is the first extinct species of Psammobates to be described.
Taxonomy
Psammobates antiquorum was named by Broadley (1997). Its type specimen is DN803, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Drimolen Main Quarry, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial breccia in South Africa.
