Taxonomy
Olenellus callavei was named by Lapworth (1888). It is the type species of Callavalonia.

It was recombined as Olenellus (Holmia) callavei by Lapworth (1891), Walcott (1891) and Cole (1892); it was recombined as Callavia callavii by Matthew (1897); it was recombined as Callavia callavei by Walcott (1910); it was recombined as Callavalonia callavei by Lieberman (2001).
